Troubleshooting Scotsman C0522MA Prodigy Harvest Cycle

picture1Found unit off on “max harvest” error code. Reset and tested unit. During the harvest cycle the harvest assist rod was not pushing against ice. This would create a longer than normal harvest cycle exceeding the 3 minute safety.  Determined the harvest assist was getting power during the harvest cycle. Discussed issue with client along with cost of part. Also explained that the unit was extremely dirty with a lot of scale buildup. The water level and ice thickness sensor are extremely scaled and just need to be replaced with new. Quoted client for repair work to replace harvest assist, water level sensor , ice thickness sensor, and cleaning with a filter change. Client approved repair and service. Removed the old harvest assist and replaced with a new one. Replaced the water level and the ice thickness control and ran descaling solution in the clean cycle. After 20 minutes purged and rinsed the system several times. Afterwards broke apart all removable components. Cleaned reservoir, components, and re-assembled unit. Ran descaling solution a second time for 10 minutes to help reduce the amount of scale buildup in the unit. Further discussed with client that unit should be descaled more often due to the bad the scale problem.  Started unit after descaling. Freeze cycle timed at 15 minutes and harvest for 1.5 minutes. Second cycle times were similar. Highly recommend having unit descaled every three months and perhaps adding a scale inhibitor filter or stick to the inlet water.
